Hi there!

I’m Andrew, and Scree is where I publish essays about places and the strange, ordinary things that happen while moving through them.
Most of the stories begin outdoors: in a mountain hut, beneath bad weather, on a trail that has gone on longer than expected. But they are rarely just about hiking. They are about hospitality, discomfort, memory, attention, ambition, loneliness, and the ways a landscape can rearrange how we see other people.
You might be wondering, "what's scree?" The name comes from the loose stone that gathers on a mountain, shaped slowly by weather and gravity. That felt right. These essays are gathered in much the same way... fragments of experience that accumulate, shift, and eventually begin to resemble something.
Scree is an independent publication. There is no content calendar, algorithmic strategy, or promise that every journey will produce a lesson. Just writing about what I notice along the way.
Thanks for being here.
